Quick Q&A with a Frag Doll

BrookelynEarlier this week Brookelyn from the Ubisoft’s female gaming group the Frag Dolls was kind enough to answer a few quick questions for us.  Click on through to find out what she has to say about her job as a Frag Doll, one of her idols and ways you could get your girlfriend to play some video games.

1.  Name/Age/Occupation?

Brooke Hattabaugh aka Brookelyn/27/Frag Doll- Professional Gamer/Ubisoft Promotions

2.  How long have you been a Frag Doll?

4 ½ years, I’m one of the original Frag Dolls.

3.  How exactly did you become a Frag Doll?

My friend Amy (Valkyrie from the Frag Dolls) emailed me about a job posting in Craigslist.  The posting stated that Ubisoft was looking to hire a team of all girl gamers to compete and promote their game titles.  So I applied, and within a week Ubisoft flew me to San Francisco for a formal interview.

4.  What would you say is your favorite part of your job?

Competing, no doubt!  I always have been very competitive; if it was with sports or video games.  Frag Dolls allows me to compete without having to cover the expenses.  It’s great! I also love the traveling.

5.  Least favorite part of your job?

Repeating myself.  When I’m promoting Ubisoft titles at industry events, I constantly have to repeat myself about the games key facts, anywhere from 10-14 hours a day.  I never realize how exhausting talking can be.

6.  Do you have any advice for folks who want to make gaming a profession?

Compete in as many tournaments as possible.  Present yourself or your team to sponsors; let them know why you would be the perfect team/person to sponsor.  It’s all about selling yourself.  You can be the best gamer in the world, but if you don’t have a good attitude and no personality; sponsors won’t give you the time of the day.  After all, they want someone that can sell their products.

7.  Obvious question time:  what is your current favorite game?

Although I’ve been slacking on this game recently, I would have to say World of Warcraft, hands down!  I really enjoyed Killzone 2 and Left4Dead, but I have to stay loyal to WoW and give it the shout out it deserves.

8.  Biggest pet peeve in video games?

Crying about lag! Lag happens to everyone, I get it! God knows I’ve have joined some wicked lagged games, but I hate when players never mention it until they start losing.

9.  What game holds the greatest memories for you?

The original RainbowSix 3 on Xbox.  This is the game that took me from, casual gamer to professional gamer.  It will always hold a special place in my heart.

10.  All the guys I know are always asking how to get their girlfriend/ wife/ sister / female friend into games.  Any suggestions?

A lot of girls I know got started in videogames because their boyfriends turned them on to it.  I know myself started playing Xbox Live, because my boyfriend left Ghost Recon on before he went to work.  I put the headset on, joined a room and have been addicted every since.    Don’t try to force one genre on her; rent a few different genres and encourage her to play all of them.  There is bound to be one she likes.

11. What do you do with yourself when you aren’t playing games? Any other interesting hobbies?

Believe it or not I’m sort of a stereotypical girl when it comes to my other hobbies.  I love to shop, especially for shoes.  I enjoy sewing and writing children books on my spare time.

12.  Do you have any personal idols or people you look up to?

Abraham Lincoln was awesome.  If I could go back in time he would be the one person I would want to meet.  I only hope that I would be as courageous as him, if I lived back in those days.  I’m also hoping Obama can turn this country around, but I know it can’t be done overnight.  I’ll let you know in 4 -8 years what I think of him.

13.  Finally, what do you think you would be doing if you were not a Frag Doll?

Probably a graphic designer in some rinky dink town in Texas.

We love shoes too Brooke.  In fact aside from video games, shoes might be our greatest weakness….

If any of you out there can think of other questions for us to ask in the future go ahead and drop them in the comments or send us an email.  You know how Leah loves email.
